They may fail to receive the same amount of attention as their passenger-carrying cousins, but cargo and
freighter aircraft are in many ways the lifeblood of the world economy. Vast fleets of cargo aircraft
operated by shipping giants like UPS and the US Postal Service are vital to maintaining production rates in
many high-tech industries. Most commercial transports are not necessarily designed as such but instead are
modified from military transports or other types of commercial aircraft. While most are difficult to
distinguish from these original models, some (like the Super Guppy and An-225) take on monstrous new
characteristics dictated by their peculiar transport capabilities.
