Mechanical Engineer

Biography: Greg is a former test pilot and flight test engineer now specializing in conceptual studies of future aircraft and related systems. He also develops technologies for unmanned aerial vehicles and ground control systems, mainly for civil applications like surveying and communications. Greg enjoys flying and boating with his family, and he is the Aerospaceweb.org webmaster.

Aaron Brown

Astronautical Engineer

Member: 2001-present

Biography: Aaron specializes in trajectory analysis, design, and operations at the NASA Johnson Space Center. Aaron has worked as a Trajectory Operations Officer for the International Space Station program and on algorithm and technique development for the next generation of trajectory software for NASA's Orion vehicle.

Professional Interests: Orbital mechanics, space mission planning, manned space flight, unmanned space flight.

Personal Interests: Inter-planetary space travel, mathematics, fishing, skiing, traveling, cooking, dancing.

Doug Jackson

Aeronautical Engineer

Member: 2000-present

Biography: Doug uses his background in aviation and aerospace to improve aircraft survivability, or the ability to withstand damage and continue flying safely. Doug concentrates his skills on helicopters and other rotorcraft as well as efforts to improve crash-worthiness. He has also worked in program management on major aerospace programs. He travels the country frequently to participate in survivability tests of aircraft, helicopters, and unmanned aerial vehicles.

Professional Interests: Aerodynamics, flight dynamics, helicopters, tilt rotor technology, survivability, experimental testing, project management.

Personal Interests: Military aircraft, air shows.

Jayme O'Sullivan

Aerospace Engineer

Member: 2001-2005

Biography: Jayme supports the design, development, and production of different types of aircraft. She has extensive experience in creating, validating, and applying simulation tools to assist in the design and operation of flying vehicles. Her other specialties include aerodynamic analysis, wind tunnel testing, conceptual design, and performance predictions. Jayme is also a private pilot.

Professional Interests: Aerodynamics, conceptual design, wind tunnel testing, vehicle performance prediction.

Jeff Scott

Aerospace Engineer

Member: 1997-present

Biography: Jeff specializes in aerodynamic analysis and flight simulation to predict performance of flying vehicles. Among projects Jeff has supported are conceptual design, guidance and control software, modeling & simulation, scene generation, system engineering, wind tunnel tests, flight clearance analysis, and advanced technology development. Jeff is the chief editor of Aerospaceweb.org.

Professional Interests: Aerodynamics, flight mechanics, airframe design, flight simulation, six degree-of-freedom simulation analysis, trajectory prediction and visualization, vehicle performance.

Molly Swanson

Computer Scientist

Member: 2003-present

Biography: Molly designs software for networking and communications applications. Much of her work focuses on improving network architecture to enhance communications and the rapid transfer of information. Molly's minor in psychology and human factors experience provide understanding to organize, present, and make complex information easy to comprehend in fast-paced, high-stress environments.

Professional Interests: Computer programming, object oriented architecture, computer engineering, information technology, human factors, psychology.

Personal Interests: Air shows, auto racing, motorcycles, traveling, writing, photography.

Matt Walker

Mechanical Engineer

Member: 2004-present

Biography: Matt specializes in thermodynamics, combustion, and fluids with an application to high-speed propulsion systems. His past research has involved catalytically assisted combustion of kerosene fuels in reciprocating engines. His primary interests are high-speed airbreathing propulsion and advanced solid rocket technologies. Projects Matt has supported include the X-43 scramjet research vehicle, NASA's Rocket Based Combined Cycle flight test fixture, and the Ares 1 Crew Launch Vehicle.

Professional Interests: Airbreathing propulsion, thermodynamics, combustion, gas dynamics, rocketry, computer programming.

Personal Interests: Aviation history, radio controlled airplanes, motorcycles, camping, hunting, fly fishing, engineering education.


Justine Whitman

Astronomer

Member: 2006-2014

Biography: Justine is a retired astronomer who spent most of her career studying characteristics of binary star systems as well as planets and other bodies within our local solar system. She worked closely with physicists, geologists, engineers, and other researchers to take advantage of advancements in telescope technology and improve observations of stars, planets, and other distant objects. Justine also taught astronomy and enjoys amateur stargazing with her husband, children, and grandchildren.

Professional Interests: Interferometry, radio telescopes, spectroscopy, planetary geology, computer programming.

Personal Interests: Amateur astronomy, history, geology, photography, painting, religious studies.

Joe Yoon

Electrical Engineer

Member: 2001-present

Biography: Joe Yoon has earned degrees in physics and aerospace engineering in addition to his doctorate in electrical engineering. He spent his early career working for NASA and major aerospace companies but now operates a small private consulting firm employed by research laboratories, academic institutions, and corporations in the engineering field. Though Joe currently specializes in systems engineering and developing information networking concepts, his career has spanned such varied tasks as computer programming, flight data analysis and reconstruction, accident investigation, signal processing, and aircraft instrumentation design.

Professional Interests: Computer networking, multi-disciplinary optimization, flight testing, flying qualities, fluid dynamics, data analysis, signal processing, accident investigation, range safety, circuit design.
